Two Steps to Chic

Even though I describe myself as a girl who likes to spend time putting on makeup and doing my hair, there are some days where I just don’t have the time or can’t be bothered. My laziness usually seems to catch up with me as the week goes on, and by Friday, it is a miracle that I am even out of bed and looking put together. If you are interested in my secret to looking great on a Friday, then keep on reading because I have two tricks that are sure to have you looking gorgeous at the end of the week.

My first piece of advice to looking great comes with making sure that your hair looks decent. Many girls like to wait an extra day before they wash their hair, or maybe they won’t even brush it when it nears the end of the week. I am not going to lie and pretend that I haven’t done either of those things because I most definitely have, but in order to combat the bird’s nest of hair that you may wake up with, you should turn it into a messy bun. As the name implies, a messy bun does not require fresh or even really clean hair. In fact, the dirtier and messier it is, the better.

Achieving a messy bun is extremely easy and takes about a minute to do. The first thing that I do is make sure that I do not brush my hair. Then I will take all of my hair together in one hand and secure it as though I am going to make a ponytail. I will then hold my hair with my left hand, and with my right hand I will start twisting my hair around my left hand until all of the hair has been used up. I will then secure it with a hair tie. If you have flyaways or extra hair, you may want to use a bobby pin just to make the hair look a little more polished. Sometimes I like to pull at the bun in order to make it fuller or more disheveled looking, but it really depends on how much effort I want to put into the messy bun for the day.

The second part in achieving a put together look quickly has to do with spicing up your makeup. I truly love makeup, but there are some days when I don’t have the time to spend putting it on. I will still use my foundation and blush because those are pretty much staples to me, but instead of doing something creative with my eye shadow, I will do a bold lip color. People don’t realize how little time doing a bright lip  takes. With a bold lip, I will usually only put on a light wash of color over the lids and use some mascara. Putting on heavy eye shadow and eyeliner only competes with the lips and will often make you look as though you are wearing clown makeup, and trust me, that is definitely not a cute look. The lipstick I am using is #13 Rouge Pur Couture by YSL, but any kind of bright color will work whether it be pink or red. This orange is perfect for the spring and summer and will most definitely spice up your lazy Fridays.

I encourage you all to try a messy bun and bright lips on a day when you don’t feel like getting ready. Not only will people think that you spent a lot of time getting ready, but you will also look stylish and on trend for the upcoming months.

Can’t Pinch Me

crowdHappy Monday everyone!  The weather here in Nashville was absolutely gorgeous this past weekend!  My girlfriends and I decided to head to the east side of town and check out the East Nashville St. Patricks’s Festival.  It was held in the East Park with live music, food trucks and lots of green!!!  After wandering around the park for awhile we were starting to get hungry and headed to one of our favorite mexican restaurants, Rosepepper.  Rosepepper has a fun eclectic atmosphere and we enjoyed soaking up the warm weather out on the patio.  Their  margaritas are delicious and for some reason they are clear verses a bright neon green like most other places!  All in all it was a great weekend and if I didn’t already have spring fever (I did!!!) I certainly have it now after the warm tease we had!!

Fringe and Lace Night of Shopping

Hey everyone, it’s Louisa! Last Thursday Fringe and Lace had its first open house. We opened the doors of our office space for local Nashvillians to shop through sale items and the newer Spring collection as well. This being one of my first events as an intern, and Fringe and Lace’s first open house, I was excited to see how it would turn out. The event was a huge success. There was wine and other refreshments and Stephanie was our dj for the night! I really enjoyed the experience of helping to plan the event and then watch it pan out successfully before my eyes. Here are some of my favorite photos from the night:

(That’s Stephanie and me!)

We had guests from Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, and plenty of fashionable ladies from the Nashville area come to shop. With such a great turnout, we’re thinking of having one of these every month so our local customers can come try on the merchandise and see the clothes in person!

Wavy Hair Tutorial with a Twist

Happy Wednesday everyone. This is Stephanie, one of Fringe and Lace’s interns this semester.

Since the weather is going to be heating up soon, I thought I would do a fun beachy hair tutorial with a side braid. You can do this hairstyle on freshly washed or second day hair. I love to do it on second day hair because my hair can get a little oily in the front, and the side braid conceals any grease that may have built up during the day.

This hairstyle can be worn any time of year and with any outfit, but I personally prefer to rock it during the warmer months with a dress and sandals. Now, I know that many of you freak out when it comes to hairstyles, but there is no need to worry because my tutorial is simple and fail proof. My hair naturally has some wave to it, but it doesn’t matter how long, what color, or what texture your hair is because this hairstyle will look great on everyone. I have received many compliments when I style my hair this way, and once you learn how to do it, I am sure you will receive the same recognition. So whithout further ado, lets go through the basic steps of this hair tutorial.

Washed and Unstyled Hair

Once I have washed my hair,  I put in two pumps of Aveda’s smooth infusion and a couple of drops of Ojon’s damage reverse instant restorative hair repair serum. These products are perfect for hair that has any kind of texture because they are smoothing but also prevented that unwanted frizz. I will then blow-dry my hair halfway and leave the rest to air dry, which will leave me with slightly wavy hair.

Conair Conical WandStyling Products

Next, I start curling my hair with the infiniti conical wand by Conair. I love this clampless curler because it makes really natural looking waves, which are perfect for this beachy hairstyle. I will usually clip my hair up and do the underneath section first, and then I will keep letting sections down until my entire head is curled. I will usually spray each section with a bit of hairspray after it has been curled, but this is not necessary. I leave the front two pieces on either side uncurled because this is the hair that I will use to make the braid. I normally braid the hair to the right side of my head but that is a personal preference, and you can do whichever one suits you the best. I will then secure the braid with two bobbi pins and do a  light spritz of hairspray just to ensure that the curls don’t droop and everything stays in place. I am currently using the Moroccanoil luminous hairspray, which is perfect for this hair tutorial. It doesn’t leave your hair stiff, but it has great hold and leaves your hair shiny.

This hairstyle is simple but cute, and the best part is that anyone can wear it. I love this beachy hair because there is no way that you can mess up, and it will look as though you spent a long time doing your hair, when in reality, it will probably take you ten to fifteen minutes. If you tend to be very one dimensional with your hair, then I highly recommend trying this hairstyle for the upcoming months. It is the finishing touch to any outfit, and before you walk out the door in your latest spring dress, spend ten minutes doing your hair. You will receive a ton of compliments and will look stylish and very trendy this spring.

I am really into how sleek black on black looks.  It’s such a simple outfit but add a pair of heels and it’s perfect for a date night! I wore this outfit out with the hubs to check out The Stone Fox.  After hearing so much buzz about this place in the last couple weeks one of my girlfriends and I grabbed brunch there on Sunday.  It was such a fun vibe I decided I had to go back at night and check out their drink menu.  They did not disappoint!!  If you find yourself on the west side of town I highly suggest you drop in for a cocktail!
